Brothers Vilgalys Spirits is a company based in Durham, NC that I've been involved with since it was merely an idea on a napkin. Together with the owner, Rim Vilgalys, we conceptualized a brand that would frame-up the story of the Vilgalys family, highlighting its Lithuanian heritage. It's main product is Krupnikas, a traditional Lithuanian style of spiced honey liqueur. The Brothers Vilgalys Spirits Co. Krupnikas is distributed in bars and ABC stores throughout East coast, and online at Federal Spirits.
All the illustrations and typography were generated using hand carved pine woodblocks that were printed on a Vandercook Universal letterpress and scanned to create authentic textures.
Gatorade Endurance is a line of hydration and sports nutrition products specifically tailored to endurance athletes. Together with a team, we were tasked to design a new line of packaging design that would fit within the Gatorade brand and reflect the energy of an endurance athlete. The project included package design, branding, and experience design for on-course signage and equipment.

The Book Is Dead, Long Live the Book!
"The Book is Dead: Long Live the Book!" was an exhibition shown in the Allred Gallery featuring books from the special collections library at NC State University. The book I highlighted for the rare books exhibition is titled "Die Schmetterlinge Europas" published in Stuttgart, Germany in 1910. For this exhibition, I was able to be a part of all the steps for designing an exhibition from title wall to labeling systems to pedestal design. The hanging shelf system was conceptualized, designed and built by me and three other design students at the College of Design for the Allred Gallery. The hovering plexiglass panels I used to highlight certain aspects of the rare book being displayed underneath.
The installation was realized for a graphic design project at the NC State University College of Design, under the supervision of Prof. Katie Meaney.
I love working on information design because their are so many design elements to play with; color, image, scale, composition, typography. My goal in working to visualize information is to distill the message down to its purest form and make it as readable as possible.
While working on these editorial illustrations I worked in a quick timeline, going from concept to layout and finalization in a matter of days. Here is a sampling of my favorite information graphics. The topics varied from driverless cars to food fraud.

This is a poster I designed for a musician called Shakey Graves for the Sasquatch Poster Show. After sketching out the design, I carved the entire poster out of a piece of linoleum and printed it on my Showcard proofing press at home. The whole process took about 4 days. The poster was featured in the 2014 Sasquatch Poster Show at the Piranha Shop in Seattle.
This past spring quarter I lead a 10-week graphic design fundamentals course at the School of Visual Concepts here in Seattle. During the 10-weeks I covered as much of the basic principles and concepts behind the field of graphic design.
I've also taught graphic design courses and workshops at the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh and NC State University's Design Camp.
NB Signs Workshop
In the spring of 2013, I flew down to San Francicso to take the Intro to Brush Lettering sign painting class at New Bohemia Signs. The first day we praticed our casual and gothic alphabets based on Damon Styer's letterforms. The second day we sketched out our sign and painted it! This is my sign from the weekend. One of many more to come, I hope.
This is a hand-carved linoleum, letterpressed print made for The Every Letter Project, organized by Evan McDonald. I was assigned the letter O. I designed a kaleidoscope of ladybugs in the shape of an O.

Brothers Vilgalys Spirits is a company based in Durham that I have been involved with since 2011. It was my task to come up with a brand identity and package design. In addition to the identity, another area I conceptualized, along with the o in is the “Founders Club”. The Founders Club is a limited time membership for people who want to support the company during the start-up process. The Brothers Vilgalys Spirits Co sells in over 25 bars and ABC stores around the triangle area of North Carolina and online at Federal Spirits. We are looking forward to see how this small liqueur business grows!
A selection of some posters I've designed for various music events, including Sasquatch! Music Festival, Decibel Festival and Blissfest. I have explored many different methods for producing my poster designs, from screen printing to letterpress and even hand drawn! I enjoy thinking about the design with relief printmaking in mind; the limitations of the medium boost my creativity. I hope to do add more hand made/hand printed posters, like the Shakey Graves poster, in the future.
I had an extra linoleum block lying around from a previous project so I decided to make a little one color print for my co-workers at Tether. It's a humorous illustration of a bottle of magic storytelling potion; like something concocted by Willy Wonka but rather Stanley Hainsworth and the Tether crew. Just having a little fun :)
